UNHEARD VOICES // SECTION 6 - FINAL OUTCOME, EVALUATION & REFLECTION

Evaluation and Reflection

Overall I am really happy with how this project ends up. When I first started this project I thought it would be very easy. However, I found that this project was really hard to find an unheard voice that was interesting and was linked to big topics. I ran over my schedule for 2 weeks as I couldn't find anyone. This really threw me as I am not used to working with a schedule which is not followed.  Luckily I came across Elena Thornton's work, which was just stunning.

I think that a strength of this project is that I didn't approach this editorial in a traditional sense when I was designing the article. I got massive pieces or papers and cloth and was draping and designing a dress on a mannequin. This meant that I learnt a bit about dressmaking. From this, I then thought how I could challenge the way of editorial works. From this experimental play, I then went back to the more traditional started designing in InDesign. I want it to coney words, images, text in a simple and clear way when the user could still read and understand. But once they have read the article they could then cut it out and make a dress with it.

Reflecting back on the project. I thought that a weakness of this project was that I shouldn't have put the second article in. It wasn't really as relevant to the subject. I should have written another article that the subject should have about Elena Thornton work.  I think I did this as I was pushed for time. If I was to do this project again I would have written the article my self.

A problem that came up was that I wanted to do an editorial with Elena and build up a set in a studio and take photos of her and her garments. Unfortunately, the timescales and our schedules didn't match up. I solved this problem by going back to the idea and changing it slightly to look a the bigger problem which was that people in the fashion world don't get recognition.
